Cost is $15 per class, with discount on series (4 weeks for $50), payable in advance or at class. New students welcome. Policies are on the registration form. NEW SERIES 👣 DANCE: SALSA CASINO LEVEL 1 (2 Slots) This series introduces Casino, aka Cuban Salsa, preparing new and experienced dancers alike for a journey into one of the world’s most dynamic social dances. The areas of focus are: 1) Posture, body movement, and style; 2) Rhythm, coordination, and projection; 3) Basic step, variations, dance positions, and movement; and 4) Core figures. Once students have achieved these objectives, they will be ready to progress to the next level, where more complex and stylish content will be introduced. They will also be well-prepared to dance correctly and elegantly in social settings. Free review class of this series on Saturday August 2nd 2-3pm. Instructor: Adolfo Castillo 👣 DANCE: SALSA CASINO LEVEL 2 Students will strengthen their foundation from Level 1 while learning traditional Casino figures and modern variations. They will also learn how to combine multiple figures smoothly, using clear transitions and spatial awareness, guided by the instructor’s demonstrations. Finally, students will develop the ability to improvise by combining traditional figures naturally and spontaneously, taking into account their partner, the structure of the music (verse vs. montuno), and the mood of the moment. By mastering these objectives, students will be ready to learn more advanced and eye-catching content and will gain a higher level of skill for social dancing. In this class, you'll gain the tools to dance with confidence and elevate your social dancing. We’ll focus on body awareness, musicality, and partner connection — all within the expressive and dynamic world of Bachata. Drawing from both traditional and sensual styles, you’ll be encouraged to explore and define your own style. Along the way, we’ll introduce you to the latest international Bachata music and artists shaping the scene across the U.S. and beyond. Together, we’ll build a vibrant and connected Bachata community right here in Ithaca. Free review class of this series on Saturday August 2nd 4-5pm. Instructor: Arturo Canales and Jessica Ritchie WEEKLY 🎶 MUSIC: AFRO-CUBAN PERCUSSION Participants learn drumming and percussion technique, drawing on traditional and contemporary Afro-Cuban rhythms. These rhythms are rooted in the traditions of the West African slaves brought to Cuba and the Caribbean starting in the 17th century, and continuing through most of the 19th century. Some of the rhythms we learn maintain close similarity to their African antecedents, while others are more uniquely Cuban, Haitian, and Caribbean, influenced by the mix of African cultures as well as indigenous islanders and Europeans. Instructor: Adolfo Castillo 👣 DANCE: AFRO-CUBAN TRADITIONAL & FOLKLORIC Connect to the rich traditions of Afro-Caribbean rhythm. Move your body with passion and flow. Instructors: Adolfo Castillo and Lisbet López KIDS & TEENS 🎶 MUSIC: INTRODUCTION TO AFRO-CUBAN PERCUSSION Discover the energy, rhythm, and culture of Cuba in the heart of Ithaca! We invite children and youth to participate in our new Afro-Cuban percussion classes, where they will learn traditional rhythms steeped in the history and cultural richness of Cuba's African heritage. Through drumming and singing, students will develop coordination, a sense of rhythm, and skills on percussion instruments while connecting with a vibrant and living tradition. No previous experience is necessary, just a desire to learn and enjoy. Rhythm, culture, and joy for all levels! All welcome! Introduction classes on July 12th and 26th are for ages 6-17. Classes will continue in August with separate groups for Kids 6-11 and Teens 12-17. Instructor: Adolfo Castillo 👣 DANCE: SALSA AND CUBAN DANCE FLAVOR The rhythm of the Caribbean comes to Ithaca! We invite children and young adults to immerse themselves in the joy of salsa and other popular Cuban dances such as son, cha-cha-chá, and rumba. These fun and energetic classes teach basic steps, coordination, body expression, and teamwork, all while celebrating the cultural richness of Cuba and the Caribbean. Participants will not only learn to dance, but also to connect with music, history, and community. No previous experience is necessary; just a desire to move and enjoy. SALSA @ SUNSET SUMMER 2025 2ND CRUISE The first Salsa@Sunset sets sail tomorrow, Sunday June 22nd at 7:30pm.
